True Southern Hospitality!    posted 10/6/2013

When I received an invitation to a friend's wedding in a small town, I did not imagine how fabulous it would be. The spring garden wedding was held early evening. I loved the beautiful flowers decorating the gazbebo, the bouquets of the wedding party and the arrangements throughout the charming restored home. They used combinations of tulips, roses and calla lilies. The food was among the best I've ever had at any event. They even had a shrimp and grits station. The bartender had created a signature drink for my friend and her husband. The staff treated us like celebrities -- Southern hospitality at its finest. We partied under the stars! It was a night I will never forget!

Ultimate Elegance!    posted 10/6/2013

When my niece was planning her wedding, I told her to check out The Mitchell House and Gardens. I had been to several weddings and parties there. She loved the personal attention that she received on the tour and the friendly staff. She booked immediately. In the months leading up to her wedding, we had great fun planning her menu, flowers and personal details. It was really a stress-free experience. They worked with her budget, and I was very surprised by the affordability of the wedding. On the day of the big event, we were overwhelmed by the exquisite flowers and attention to detail. Her guests are still talking about the great food and beautiful cake. Brides receive a FREE cake baked on onsite by their "cake diva." They can choose the flavor of the layers and the decoration of the cake. I recently attended a bridal luncheon. Once again, I was stunned by the beauty of the event and the great food. Five stars aren't enough!

Guest Perspective    posted 10/3/2013

I attended a wedding and reception at The Mitchell House & Garden this past June. Actually I have attended several events at this venue over the years. They continue to outdo themselves! Beautiful inside and out with gardens in bloom. The wedding was lovely. It was in the garden at the gazebo. There was food in every room inside. The food was scrumptious! The cake was gorgeous and tasted yummy...moist and flavorful. The DJ really got the party started and we danced the night away. The bride looked so happy, like she didn't have a single worry. And when it was time to cut the cake, since everyone was on the dance floor under the pavilion, the staff brought the cake outside to the bride and groom. Their staff must have nerves of steel to carry a fully-assembled wedding cake 50 yards! I can't think of anything the Mitchell House & Garden could improve upon or change to be better...well, maybe if they could add more bathrooms :) but it is a historic home so I do understand why there are only two on the main level.

Everything Was Beautiful    posted 8/16/2013

They handled my daughters wedding and reception. We could not have been happier. They catered to my daughters every need, which helped her stay calm and happy. The staff was outstanding keeping everything well stocked even our guests commented on it. The grounds are so beautiful with all the flowers in bloom. I highly recommend The Mitchell House to anyone planning a wedding.

The Mitchell House Experience    posted 8/16/2013

What a memorable day! Everything went so smoothly. There was no reason to stress. Even with the last minute changes, The Mitchell House staff handled everything with outstanding professionalism. The flowers were gorgeous. The food delicious. And the wedding cake was out of this world! I highly recommend The Mitchell House and Gardens! I haven't been asked, yet. But when I do get married, it will be there.

Y'all The Mitchell House and Gardens hands down BE    posted 1/30/2012

The Mitchell House and Gardens went above and beyond my expectations. I read a few reviews about how they seemed to not be able to keep straight which future bride they were talking to, and that the wedding director is a tad bossy(she was extremely professional).
The Mitchell House and Gardens staff clearly love what they do and they do it well. Karen and Patsy made my wedding out of this world. Karen made sure that everything was on track. The toast, cake cutting, dining, first dance, bouquet and garter toss. I didn't have to worry about a thing.
After all of our guests had left and as my husband and I were leaving to head to the car the whole Mitchell House and Gardens staff lined up and threw rice for us.
From the beginning I knew this was the place when I called and said that I had to move the wedding up by four months and if it was possible to be married in four weeks.(Hubs was called for deployment)
Phyllis said "not a problem". I recommend getting married here. 100% stress free experience!
Oh and the food was amazing!

Exactly what I wanted in a wedding    posted 7/29/2011

My wedding was beautiful and I would not have changed a thing! I had specific requests for my decor and flowers and they did exactly what I asked for - hanging chinese paper lanterns from the beams with tulle swags and kissing balls and stars under the main arbor where our ceremony took place. The garden was beautiful and the staff was very helpful. The bartender, Berry, did a great job of taking care of my guests and I had the option of even customizing my bar for my guests! We had a Friday night wedding and since we were the only party for the evening, we were able to relax and get ready for the ceremony in the bridal suite upstairs and we had what they called a "silver tray service" with snacks and sodas for my bridal party. The food was wonderful and my cake was exactly what I asked for - alternating square and round stacked layers with my ribbon around each layer. When we left for our honeymoon they packed up a going away basket for us that last for 2 days! I loved the fact that it was an historical home, too. It made me feel like my special day was a part of it's new history! And for a bride on a budget, their packages are the best - the prices are based on the menu combo you choose and you don't have to rent tables and chairs or table clothes and candelabras. They even used the centerpiece holders that I brought and let me show them a picture of what I wanted and they were exactly perfect! I could not have asked for a better wedding experience.

Beautiful wedding and good value, but not perfect    posted 6/5/2011 (updated 10/8/2013)

There are a lot of wonderful things about the Mitchell House, but if you are a creative perfectionist or control freak, it is not the best place to use. The Mitchell House provides weddings in a box, if you will. They provide packages and time slots at a reasonable rate, but don't follow directions very well if you want something creative. They make great food and beautiful flowers, but they do so many wedding that special instructions get somewhat ignored. For example, when I went in for my final appointment out of three a week and a half before the wedding the woman didn't know my name, asked me (in a way that made it seem as if she thought these things were true) if I was there to do my flower appointment (which I was not), if my wedding was on a friday (it was not) and if my mother was the one who had dropped off a bouquet for me (I was not). I was a little bit worried about whether they had any clue about what was going on. I also told them absolutely no gaudy white nylon bows, but they were everywhere on the night of my wedding. Finally, my cake was the wrong shade of purple, I don't think anyone else noticed, but it bothered me that it was periwinkle instead of light orchid. If these complaints seem trivial, then you will probably love the Mitchell House because they do a great job if you want the 90's wedding they are used to throwing.

Review for The Mitchell House & Gardens    posted 5/10/2010 (updated 6/10/2010)

I loved my reception venue. They took good care of everything. I didn't have to worry about anything on my wedding day. We even had a problem with one of the brides maides dress zipper broke and they had sewing neddle and thread to fix it. They did a great job on the flowers and the food was amazing. We had a brunch. They served crapes to order and the tables of food in everyroom were so beautiful. At the end of the reception they pact everything for me even the left over food. I would send everyone I know that is getting married to The Mitchell House and Garden.
