For the most part, we really liked the hotel. The location is great for a downtown wedding, the staff was helpful and friendly, the rooms were well maintained and had gorgeous views of the city and bay, and rates were reasonable for downtown SF.

However, I had to give this a 2 star rating because the grandmother of the groom was swindled out of her payment for 4 nights stay. When she checked into the hotel, she gave her credit card to hotel as standard procedure. When she checked out of the hotel after her 4 night stay, she decided to pay cash for the hotel nights. She was traveling from out of the country and wanted to get rid of the last of her U.S. currency. The mother of the groom (her daughter) was checking out of the hotel on her behalf and handed the cash to the front desk. She was then given a receipt, which was folded up and placed in an envelop. A week later, after the groom's grandmother returned home to find that her credit card had been charged for the hotel stay even though she paid the cash upon check out. We went to check the receipt that the cashier provided when she checked out, and found that instead of a receipt for cash, the receipt was for a credit card charge! So, the woman at the front desk took the cash and charged the credit card.

We would like to give the cashier the benefit of the doubt as mistakes happen, but it has been nearly 3 months, we have made numerous calls, and the groom's mother even stopped by the hotel on a recent trip to San Francisco to get the issue straightened out. Why a reputable hotel like Le Meridien would not take quick action to sort out a dispute like this is beyond me. I find it incomprehensible that they would try to swindle a 90+ year old woman out the room charge of a four night stay. I have brought so much business to the hotel through my room block I am saddened by the way they have chosen the handle the situation. I will update this review if the situation gets resolved.
